Opportunities for high school students

Co-op Programs
Our Co-Op Program offers high school seniors the unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a variety of healthcare careers while earning a paycheck. Co-Op participants typically work 10-15 hours per week during the school year, from September to June, with schedules that can vary based on school requirements. Co-Ops are offered in the following areas:
- Nursing- Inpatient Hospital-based
- Medical Assistant- Outpatient Clinics
- Emergency Medical Services (EMS)
- Laboratory
- Radiology
- Pharmacy
- Supply Chain
- Information Technology (IT)
- Respiratory Therapy
- Research

Certified Medical Assistant Pathway
The Geisinger CMA Pathway is a comprehensive paid training program where individuals will learn to perform the skills and job responsibilities of a certified medical assistant in both adult and pediatric settings. Training occurs through classroom and clinical rotations. You will gain the knowledge and skills to successfully function as a certified medical assistant in the outpatient setting. For this program you are hired as a full-time employee, paid during the 6-week training program, given support to prepare for and take the certification exam and then placed into a CMA role that is the right fit for you. Nursing and Health Sciences Scholars Program
The Geisinger Nursing and Health Sciences Scholars Program provides up to $40,000 in financial support to help you pursue a career in healthcare. This program is available for students seeking to become a Registered Nurse (RN), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Respiratory Therapist, or Surgical Technologist. In exchange for the financial support, recipients are required to fulfill a work commitment with Geisinger after completing their education. Volunteer opportunities
Our Junior Volunteer Program (JVP) provides an exceptional experience through an 8-week, structured summer service program where you can experience different types of service opportunities and interactive educational sessions. It’s perfect for students interested in a hands-on service experience and learning more about careers in healthcare.
The Aspirations in Medicine and Healthcare Initiatives (AiM HI) program, offered by Geisinger Volunteer Services, is designed for students grades 10 through 12 to take part in a one-day, hands-on career exploration experience to learn about healthcare-related professions, including clinical and non-clinical focus areas.

Geisinger College of Health Sciences
Geisinger College of Health Sciences, through its Office of Pathway Programs, offers a variety of initiatives designed to provide opportunities for students of all ages.
