Boiler Operator
Job Summary
Maintains and monitors the operation of steam generating boilers, water treatment, distribution systems and maintains system needs and regulatory requirements.
Job Duties
- Operates and monitors medium pressure steam generating boilers.
- Makes chemical checks of boiler water.
- Records periodic readings from graphs, meter charts, gauges.
- Maintains hourly and daily records of fuel consumed, water used and steam produced.
- Assures that operations conform to regulation.
- Maintains daily operating information as required by licensing authorities.
- Operates and monitors primary water treatment and distribution system.
- Checks chlorine levels of water systems.
- Maintains reservoir levels.
- Monitors fire line pressure and room temperature.
- Regenerates water softeners.
- Checks and maintains water pumps.
- Conducts periodic inspection of high pressure relief valves, alarms and cutoffs.
- Performs the following maintenance functions: cleans boilers or related equipment, oils and greases equipment, performs minor refractory repairs, washes and disinfects trash receptacles, assures proper air distribution through primary air tubes for combustion efficiency and cleans conveyor systems for assurance of safe operations.
- Sweeps and scrubs floors, paints boilers and incinerator equipment, pumps and all other equipment as needed.
- Monitors the building automation system.
- Notifies appropriate personnel of alarms after filtering out nuisance alarms.
- Assist automotive department at preparing the vehicle fleet for daily dispatching.
- Determines proper disposal of special trash steams and disposes according to departmental procedures.
- Properly operates the ChemClav.
- Ensures the operation of the ChemClav is in accordance with DER and EPA solid waste requirements for proper treatment of infectious waste.
- Identifies equipment malfunctions and repair needs.
- Immediately notifies supervisor.
- Performs 40-hour spore testing on ChemClav, as needed, to ensure proper treatment of processed infectious waste.
- Documents results for three consecutive days in log book.

As a Boiler Operator at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, you'll help ensure the safe and efficient operation of boilers, water treatment equipment, and distribution systems while supporting regulatory compliance and operational excellence.
Hours for this position are 1:00 pm to 9:30 pm + weekend and holiday rotation.

Education
High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED)- (Required)Experience
