Dietetic Technician- Milk Lab (Per Diem)
Job Summary
Under the supervision of a registered dietitian, performs daily, hands-on aspects of the storage, preparation and delivery of breast milk, infant and pediatric formulas. Support the daily operations of the Milk Lab to ensure optimal safety for all patients receiving prepared products from the Milk Lab.
Job Duties
- Coordinates with the registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN) to provide timely, cost effective, and appropriate nutritional care for the patient while avoiding duplication and waste.
- Receives and organizes physician/RDN orders, interprets orders by utilizing medical terminology and generic and trade names of all compounded components.
- Perform calculations for preparation of ordered feeding product, including measuring breast milk, formula, calculating additives, and filling orders.
- Adhere to established procedures for safe and accurate preparation of breast milk, formula, formula fortifiers and/or nutrition additives utilizing hygiene standards and personal protective gear.
- Ensure proper use of necessary labels to accurately identify, apply expiration dates and track prepared products.
- Handle and prepare breast milk and/or formula following aseptic technique.
- Ensure all products are used within proper expiration dates and manufacturers safe usage recommendations.
- Organizes the timely dispensing of final prepared breast milk and/or formula to unit refrigerators for individual patient use based on scheduled delivery times in consideration of expiration dates of each product.
- Communicates with co-workers to ensure optimal breast milk and/or formula storage and preparation.
- Document in electronic health record and other paperwork documentation as required for the preparation, delivery and proper inventory of breast milk, formula and feeding supplies.
- Clean and sanitize the work area and equipment used according to established procedures.
- Perform quality assurance tasks, such as maintaining logs.
- Checks equipment for proper operation and reports problems to the appropriate supervisor.
- Responsible of inventory and rotation of supplies.
- Demonstrate fiscal responsibility by taking ownership of time management, decreasing waste and promoting cost effectiveness while maintaining patient safety and quality of care.
- Assist in training other employees in breast milk and formula preparation and proper handling techniques as needed.

Position Details
Hours: 10 hour shifts between hours of 6:00 a.m.- 4:30 p.m.
Weekends: Must be available to work 1 out of every 3 weekends

Education: High School Diploma/GED is required; Bachelor's Degree is preferred
