Grounds Specialist- Full Time, Days
Job Summary
Provides technical direction and support for groundskeeping. Advises on selection, planting, maintenance and treatment of: trees, shrubs, plants, lawn and landscaping. Oversees/directs and participates in the work of assigned groundskeeping crews. Provides liaison with outside landscaping/nursery contractors and suppliers.
Job Duties
- Develops basic landscaping designs and plans including selecting plant materials, recognizing conditions, topography, lighting and moisture.
- Provides cost data, etc.

- Coordinates ordering and staging of work for the Grounds Department.
- Oversees and participates in the work of assigned crews and directs their activities.
- Develops maintenance programs for various lawns, shrubs, plants, etc.
- Ensures adequate watering nutrients and care is provided.
- Develops programs to protect materials from insects, fungi, disease, weather, etc.
- Ensures maintenance program is implemented.
- Inspects grounds to identify landscaping opportunities or needs.
- Provides liaison with outside landscape and nursery contractors.
- Ensures their work and efforts meet Geisinger contract standards and expectations.
- Monitors their work progress and makes adjustments to plan as able or refers to higher levels as required.
- Halts project as conditions warrant within authorized scope until a resolution occurs.
- Prepares and provides all department and job-related documentation to include reports, budgets, plans, progress notes, policies and procedures, etc.
- and ensures appropriate paper and files are kept.
- Provides general horticultural technical advice to Facilities Operations Department and Geisinger as required.
- Attends various meetings to ensure understanding of overall current and future grounds and landscape plans.
- Reviews and comments on landscaping designs prepared by architects and designers.
- Performs groundskeeper job duties as time permits, particularly during the off season.
