Job Duties
The primary function of this position is to assist the team in a non-clinical setting. This opportunity is available to a student who seeks a challenge and wants to gain a solid knowledge and hands on experience in the field of Information Technology.
Work is typically performed in an office environment. Accountable for satisfying all job specific obligations and complying with all organization policies and procedures. Position Details
IT Resilience Program, IT Incident Command, Enterprise Command Network Infrastructure Operations*
- This opportunity will expose you to the technology resilience, IT Incident Command, Infrastructure Monitoring, and IT Infrastructure maintenance. Resilience will focus on ensuring that technology continuity needs of the organization are understood, documented, tested and maintained while IT Incident Command will provide exposure to the response to and coordination of technology disruptions. IT Infrastructure Support and Maintenance involves responding to and addressing network issues in addition to maintaining the physical IT infrastructure (Network Closets and Data Centers). Infrastructure monitoring assures that there are 'eyes on' the health and well-being of the technology that supports the organization.
End User Support*
- This opportunity is within Geisinger’s End User Support team, where you’ll take part in on-site hardware and software support and troubleshooting, helping to resolve issues which enable our healthcare professionals to provide outstanding patient care. Device lifecycle management will be a key focus of this role, ensuring that our technology remains up-to-date and running efficiently. You’ll receive hands-on experience with ServiceNow, our industry standard IT Service Management (ITSM) platform used to receive and track work, procure equipment and maintain inventory. You’ll be exposed to basic project management, where you’ll assist in the basics of planning, executing, and overseeing small IT projects. The opportunity involves considerable support of Microsoft Office tools to create documents, spreadsheets and presentations that support our operations and will improve your skills with this industry standard software suite. A typical day involves multiple opportunities to work in a team environment and interact extensively with on-site supported customers. Additionally, this position is a fantastic opportunity to develop your technical skills and gain experience in an I.T. healthcare support setting. You’ll work alongside experienced professionals who will guide and support you. At the conclusion of this opportunity, you’ll have a broader understanding of how technology supports healthcare.
Enterprise Application Team – Administrative & Financial Applications*
- This opportunity will expose you to supporting enterprise-wide applications used across various business, administrative, research and financial functions within our organization. You will gain knowledge in several critical areas, including:
- User Access and Security Integration: Ensuring secure and appropriate access to applications.
- Software Lifecycle Support: Assisting with the deployment, maintenance, and retirement of software applications.
- Vendor Management: Working with vendors to manage software solutions and services.
- Application Packaging: Preparing applications for deployment across the organization.
- Application Testing: Testing applications against operating system upgrades to ensure compatibility.
- Application Troubleshooting: Diagnosing and resolving issues to maintain smooth operation.
- Software Documentation: Creating and maintaining documentation for software applications.
- Risk Remediation and Controls: Identifying and mitigating risks associated with software applications.
- Application Portfolio Inventory and Tracking: Keeping track of all applications, contractual agreements and licenses within the organization.
IT Service Desk and IT Change Management*
- This opportunity will expose you to Change Management and the IT Service Desk, with an additional focus on Knowledge Management, Incident Management, and Request Fulfillment processes. You’ll be exposed to hundreds of IT systems and services and learn about the types of issues reported to the IT Service Desk in a healthcare environment. You’ll learn the ways in which Incident Management processes make it possible to report, troubleshoot, track, and resolve break/fix issues. In Request Fulfillment you’ll learn how requests for service are handled ensuring efficient, accurate, and timely processing. Change Management will focus on ensuring that changes to the organization’s technology and services are understood, documented, tested, and approved. Knowledge Management will provide insight into the processes for capturing and sharing implicit and tacit knowledge so that it can be used to provide support and improve service efficiency and effectiveness. In addition, you’ll be included in Service Desk training and IT project meeting opportunities which will help to ensure development of technical, interpersonal, and project management skills. This role will provide a comprehensive understanding of some of the critical processes used to implement and support IT services and keep them running smoothly.
