Job Summary

Primary responsibility is processing payroll and payroll reporting in a multi-corporate environment using the payroll system. Responsible for the entry, maintenance, and verification of information of an advanced and complex nature into the Human Resources/Payroll system using procedures that ensure accuracy and integrity of information. Responsible for the accurate and timely processing of payroll-related transactions. Provides excellent customer service to Geisinger employees and management as well as external contacts. Routine duties related to tasks such as payroll tax regulation requirements, employee benefits, and their impact on taxable wages, and the organizations Human Resources policies and procedures.

Job Duties

  • Develops and maintains functional and technical expertise in assigned areas of Payroll systems and business operations.
  • Maintains understanding of data fields utilized, data flow, and system capabilities and or limitations.
  • Creates spreadsheets and prepares data for upload to the payroll system using appropriate file formats.
  • Uses v-look up tables and Crystal reports on a daily basis.
  • Utilizes numerous databases to perform quality assurance and validate data.
  • Uploads time records, deductions, and other files to the Human Resources and Payroll system using applicablesoftware.
  • Processes pay cycles and other cycles as assigned.
  • Balances hours and verifies that processing jobs successfully completed.
  • Utilizes advanced database to submit daily cash management functions between Geisinger entities.
  • Enters and approves check entry and stop payment into Geisinger account.
  • Utilizes various websites to verify local tax to be withheld and update application systems as necessary, to assure compliance with Pennsylvania Act Participates in the definition of user system requirements and provides recommendations to management concerning the selection, development, and design and implementation of system features that will provide cost-effective strategies to meet department and organizational needs.
  • Investigates out-of-balance issues, calculates corrections, and updates the payroll system with adjustments to taxable wages, tax withholdings, general ledger postings, etc.
  • Maintains an advanced understanding of all work rules, pay rules, overtime rules, union contracts, and general pay practices throughout Geisinger entities, groups, and affiliates.
  • Receives, analyzes, and recommends appropriate action on user requests for services, ranging from explanations of pay information, preparation of reports, or suggests automation processes.
  • Monitors payroll input and continually seeks out automation opportunities.
  • Submits process improvement suggestions to Payroll Team Leader.
  • Reviews payment transactions for accuracy, appropriateness, and compliance with contracts and procedures.
  • Enters recurring time records for non-cash taxable benefits such as personal use of vehicle, loan forgiveness, domestic partner income, etc.
  • Inputs and verifies automatic standard time records for severances, stipends, more.
  • Processes Gross Up and Deferred Compensation calculations.
  • Completes all manual Payroll tasks as defined by the Payroll department.
  • These specific tasks and workflows assignments ensure necessary edits are made to assure accurate payments.
  • Provides support and direction for all customers.
  • Maintains communication with customer to update progress resolution and status.
  • Verifies customer is satisfied with resolution.
  • Updates Payroll policies and procedures and other system manuals including distributions lists, versions, and Payroll web page.
  • Reviews and recommends appropriation action on user requests for services, ranging from explanation of systems functionality and activities, to the understanding and analysis of user needs, preparation of reports, or automation of processes.
  • Works with users to determine reporting requirements.
  • Responsible for accurate reporting of moving expenses.
  • Serves as a liaison to various departments and tracking moving logs received.
  • Follows up and escalates missing moving logs to assure timely reporting of income.
  • Reconciles moving expenses paid by Accounts Payable to Forms W-2 at year end.
  • Provides backup support to the Payroll Team Leader.
  • Assists with special projects as assigned.

If a suitably experienced candidate cannot be found, applicants who meet the basic qualifications but possess fewer years of experience will be considered for hire at a lower level.  Salary would commensurate with experience.

Education

High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED)- (Required), Associate's Degree- (Preferred)

Experience

Minimum of 4 years-Finance (Required)
