Job Duties
Responsible for a variety of technical duties necessary to the acquisition of echocardiographic examinations and maintenance of the normal operation of the adult echocardiography laboratory.
Cardiac sonographers independently perform or assist the licensed practitioner in the completion of various cardiac imaging procedures. Sonographers prepare, administer and document activities related to ultrasound enhancing agents in accordance with federal and state laws, regulations, or lawful institutional policy.
Meets the qualifications to provide care for patients in the specific age range in their assigned department.
- Ensures correct order is obtained, patient is properly identified and prepared for exam, and that clinical history is corroborated and appropriately documented while respecting confidentiality.
- Utilizes appropriate imaging protocol and optimizes technical factors while maximizing patient safety, optimizing patient care, and applying principles of ALARA (As Low as Reasonably Achievable).
- Preparing and/or administering, as applicable, medications through new or existing vascular access site as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
- Evaluates images for proper positioning and acceptable technical quality and verifies archival storage and/or transfer of data, post processing of data if applicable.
- Educating and monitoring students and other health care providers.
- Ensures correct order is obtained, patient is properly identified and prepared for exam, and that clinical history is corroborated and appropriately documented while respecting confidentiality.
- Preparing and/or administering ultrasound enhancing agents through new or existing vascular access site in accordance with ASE guidelines for appropriate use
- Communicates abnormal and unexpected findings with the provider to prioritize the need for additional testing or urgency of care with the licensed provider.
- Collaborating with a licensed practitioner in the performance of sonographic interventional procedures.
- Ensuring equipment parameters for diagnostic and interventional procedures are of optimal technical and administrative quality as requested by a licensed practitioner.
- Performing diagnostic, interventional, sonographic procedures as prescribed by a licensed practitioner or during appropriate educational activities.
- Assists Pediatric Cardiologists with intraoperative TEE’s.
- Assists Pediatric Cardiologists with TEE or ICE procedures in the CATH lab.
- Willingness to travel to outreach clinics as needed.

Position Details
Applicants hired after March 10, 2024, must complete steps required for advancing to level II within 24 months.

Hours: Days 8:00-a.m.- 4:30 p.m. Additional shift times will be discussed during interview process
On Call: Weekend and Holiday rotation required. Details will be discussed during interview process
Travel: Occasional to Northeast Region-when needed

The following certifications required upon hire:
Graduate from Specialty Training Program
Certification by the American Registry of Radiology Technologist (ARRT) as a sonographer or the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) certification or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) certification within 6 months.
Adult Echocardiography: ARDMS (AE) or CCI credential.
