Pediatric Residency Program Director
Job Summary
The Department of Pediatrics and the Janet Weis Children’s Hospital at Geisinger Medical Center (GMC) is seeking a board certified pediatric specialist to serve as the Pediatric Residency Program Director. A pediatric specialist boarded in pediatric nephrology, pediatric hospital medicine, or general pediatrics is strongly desired. Other subspecialty candidates will also be considered. ACGME accredited since 1972, the program hosts 33 categorical residents, 2 child neurology residents, and 20 medicine/pediatric residents. The program at Geisinger has historically developed and trained residents to a high level as demonstrated by the exceptional board pass rates. Janet Weis Children’s Hospital (JWCH), located on GMC’s campus in Danville, is the regions only dedicated 5-floor, 91 bed children's hospital with a full-service hospitalist and intensive care services. JWCH’s team of medical and surgical specialists provide care in over 30 pediatric specialties, including a 41 bed Level IV NICU and 14 bed Level I PICU. Our national collaborative data (i.e., VPS, VON, PTQUIP) consistently ranks JWCH outcomes in the top decile. Recently, our pediatric hematology and oncology and orthopedics services have been named to Becker’s List of Top 100 Programs nationally. JWCH has a strong multidimensional and bidirectional affiliation with Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. The roles and responsibilities of the Pediatric Residency Program Director will be to support the purpose, values and key strategies of the Geisinger Health System, Janet Weis Children’s Hospital and Geisinger Pediatrics.
Job Duties
Requirements:
Board certification in pediatrics and at least 3 years of documented educational and/or administrative experience.
Strong track record in medical education, ideally demonstrated by achievements as a clinician-educator. Experience in education leadership desired but not required.
Superb communication and collaboration skills, demonstrated flexibility, adaptability, and ability to resolve conflict.
Strong commitment to advancing a culture of diversity, inclusion, and belonging.
0.5 FTE clinical commitment to the successful candidate’s area of expertise. 0.5 FTE administrative time will be provided through GME.

Summary of Responsibilities:
The Program Director will be a role model of professionalism and will conduct the program in a manner that is consistent with the purpose and values of the Department of Pediatrics.
Integration of the residency into GJWCH and our outpatient clinical services in a manner that enhances the educational mission of the program and institution.
Continue a positive working relationship with residents and attending staff. Together, advancing our department’s excellence in care, medical education, research, and innovation.
Promotion of academic and meaningful scholarship among residents and program leaders.
Evaluation of residents while adhering to competency standards of the accrediting body in a timely manner.
The Program Director will submit accurate information as required and requested by the GMEC and sponsoring accrediting bodies including the ACGME.
Lead and be highly engaged in all aspects of recruitment, interviews, evaluation and selection of incoming residents and chief residents.
Establish a strategic direction of the program and is responsible for the standards and outcomes of the training program.
Represent the residency program locally, regionally, and nationally.
