Job Summary

Responsible for the performance of tasks related to application implementation, adoption, enhancement, and support. This includes but is not limited to analysis, development, training, testing, documentation, go-live and on-going support, problem resolution, and maintenance.

Job Duties

  • Demonstrates a strong understanding of assigned and related application(s); Proficiency in navigating through the application and identifying integration points.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the integration across modules and systems.
  • Evaluates proposed solutions, while considering downstream impacts, to gain efficiencies and implements the most appropriate solution.
  • Produces documentation including current and future state workflows, pros/cons, gap analysis, needs assessments, design specifications, build documentation, test plans, project plans, status reports and transitionary documentation.
  • Oversees testing including unit, scenario-based, integrated, capacity, and parallel testing.
  • Communicates effectively with peers, informaticians, stakeholders, project teams, and leadership. Provides regular updates regarding work status and demonstrates appropriate issue escalation. Learns and begins to apply conflict resolution skills to mitigate issues without escalation.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking and analysis skills to identify and evaluate wholistic solutions.
  • Completes system build and documentation in accordance with department guidelines and in adherence to change management policy.
  • Facilitate and actively contributes in meetings by being an engaged listener and offering both feedback and input.
  • Understands the integration points within and across the various applications.
  • Prepares training material and conducts training classes in either virtual or in-person settings.
  • Adheres to best practices regarding information security.
  • Participates in team on-call rotation to provide 24x7x365 support to assigned areas.
  • Provides remote and/or on-site support as needed to end-users.
  • Supports system upgrades, patches, and monitoring.
  • Serves as accountable leader for assigned projects.
  • Develops and precepts Application Analysts.
  • Assists in the preparation of department guidelines, standards, procedures, and policies.
  • Actively participates in vendor review and selection processes.
  • Demonstrates understanding of the integration and technical requirements of peripherals and devices that interface with or integrate with assigned applications.  Examples include laboratory instruments, radiology modalities, medication cabinets, printers, and scanners.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned by emergency or other operational reasons for which the employee is qualified to perform. 

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and maintain complex healthcare interfaces ensuring compliance with organizational and industry standards.
  • Analyze integration requirements, design workflows, and develop robust solutions for data exchange between clinical and ancillary systems.
  • Configure and optimize Rhapsody routes, filters, and communication points for secure, high-performance transmission.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve interface issues, minimize downtime, and meet SLAs; perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation: interface specifications, workflows, test plans, DR plans, implementation guides.
  • Perform unit, integration, and regression testing to validate functionality and data integrity.
  • Support upgrades, patches, DR tests, and migrations for Rhapsody and integrated applications.
  • Provide on-call support and participate in a 24×7 rotation as scheduled.
  • Mentor junior team members; serve as accountable owner for assigned projects; disseminate information, assign tasks, and ensure completion as appropriate.
  • Ensure adherence to security best practices, ISO policies, and HIPAA; serve as Security Administrator for the Rhapsody platform.
  • Participate in vendor evaluations, contract reviews, and technical assessments; recommend enhancements for performance, scalability, and reliability.
  • Follow ITIL processes (ITSM, ITAM, Change) in ServiceNow; practice Agile product management with Scrum in Azure DevOps (task updates, backlog grooming, retrospectives).

*Relevant experience may be a combination of related work experience and degree obtained (Associate’s Degree = 2 years; Bachelor’s Degree = 4 years).

Requirements

Skills:

  • 8+ years of professional integration experience in healthcare or closely related domains, including on-call production support and incident triage
  • Hands-on Rhapsody Integration Engine expertise: route design, filters, communication points, message transformation/mapping, deployment, and troubleshooting
  • Strong interoperability & protocols: HL7 v2/v3, REST and SOAP APIs; transmission protocols (TCP, SFTP, HTTP/HTTPS); data formats XML, JSON, YAML; schemas (WSDL, XSD); encryption with TLS/SSH

Software, Tools, Applications:

  • Rhapsody (core platform); Epic (Bridges, Interconnect, FHIR).
  • Git/Azure DevOps for source control and work tracking; ServiceNow for ITSM/ITAM/Change/SPM.
  • Scripting/Programming: JavaScript; Java or C++; SQL; command-line tools.
  • Transport/security: OpenSSL, SSH, certificate/key management; SFTP servers/clients.
  • Monitoring/observability: engine dashboards, log aggregation, alerting systems.

Industry Experience:

  • Healthcare required: acute and ambulatory workflows, HIPAA, PHI handling, and interoperability standards (HL7, FHIR, CCD)
  • Experience with clinical ancillary systems strongly preferred

Certifications and Education:

  • Rhapsody Professional Certification (preferred) or equivalent four (4) years of professional Rhapsody experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field (preferred); or equivalent experience.
  • ITIL Foundation and/or healthcare interoperability certifications (e.g., HL7) are a plus

High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED)- (Required)
