System Infection Control Practitioner I (Central Region)
Job Summary
Provides quality patient care, patient satisfaction, Infection Prevention and Control, and ensures successful regulatory surveys. Manages and coordinates inpatient and outpatient Infection Prevention and Control activities.
Job Duties
- Coordinates and participate in the development and implementation of Infection Control programs and activities in assigned areas and departments.
- Identifies, recommends and implements changes to improve infection prevention and control practices and provides education to assure the effectiveness of the Infection Control Program.
- Coordinates rounds in all patient care areas.
- Recommends changes in patient care and recommends department specific education about infection control practices based on information collected or observed on rounds.
- Coordinates implementation and education about the Infection Control Plan as assigned.
- Assists with implementation of hospital-wide infection control activities.
- Identifies and records hospital acquired infections per Act 5 requirements.
- Reviews appropriate laboratory data and medical records for surveillance and reporting purposes.
- Analyzes records and prepares reports on the incidence of targeted infections.
- Understands and communicates Joint Commission and other governing body requirements which relate to Infection.
- Actively participates in all regulatory surveys.
- Participates in surveillance activities to identify unusual epidemic situations, to evaluate the impact of new procedures or equipment, and to evaluate how the infection prevention and control program impacts the delivery of patient care.
- Collaborates with representatives of community health agencies and other institutions to assure coordinated service for prevention and control of infection.
- Assists Public Health authorities in the investigation of reportable infections as required.
- Performs concurrent and retrospective medical record review to identify potential hospital acquired infections.

Position Details
- Must be flexible with time management
- Must be able to travel to all locations within the system
- System IP's will work as Infection Preventionist level I - areas of responsibility will vary based on management needs
- Cover the campuses and assist Inpatient IP's with additional workloads
- Responsible for reporting of outpatient infections
- Assist the HOP personnel in Northeast and Central Region
- Be available to respond to unannounced regulatory visits to campus being surveyed
- Function in team environment
- Assigned projects to system educational projects ie, Hand Hygiene Campaign, Fast Facts development
- Team will be responsible for outpatient education and be point of contact for outpatient/HOP areas
- Will round at GBloom and Gsach campuses two days per week
- Assist HOP staff with ASC's
- Scheduled rounding with system accreditation team to prepare sites for regulatory preparedness
- Other duties as assigned by System Administrative Director
