Job Summary

Are you currently a junior in high school? Are you considering nursing as a future career? Apply today to gain valuable experience during your senior year! The co-op program is an educational and clinical work experience for high school students. Students will work 1:1 with a preceptor and perform a wide range of patient care tasks under the nursing support scope. The performance of tasks allows the care team to provide quality care.

Job Duties

  • The position will focus on providing patient care within a clinical scope of practice.
  • Fulfills designated responsibilities for ongoing continuum of care (non-assessment).
  • Identifies, observes, and documents the physical needs of the patient according to standards.
  • Assists with patient transfer and transport as needed.
  • Assists in problem solving, trouble shooting, and taking corrective measures in care and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
  • Assists in clerical responsibilities as required for task completion.
  • Suggests issues for improvement and offer solutions on issues.

Position Details

This is a standard req for the Inpatient Nursing Co-Op position for the Lewistown Region (Geisinger Lewistown Hospital).

High school junior students must apply to this program their junior year to complete the co-op as a senior during the 2025-2026 academic school year.

    Inpatient Nursing Co-Op students must attend a mandatory 2-day orientation (dates will be provided to students upon hire). Co-Op hours on the assigned unit will begin in September.
