Emergency Preparedness Coordinator
Job Summary
Serves in the role as the lead for emergency management education, training and general administration in coordination of emergency management regulatory activities. Provides necessary project management support, guidance and consultation for all Geisinger facilities within the region, as needed. Coordinates business continuity planning and implementation of the plans when needed. Leads education and training activities and coordinates exercises and drills. Responds in a regional or system capacity during an incident, emergency, or disaster event to support the impacted facility(ies).
Job Duties
- Provides the tools and guidance to execute a minimum of two Hospital-wide Emergency Preparedness Drills per year at each GHS facility, one of which must include a coordinated response with local emergency services. These drills must meet Joint Commission Emergency Management standards.
- Provides the tools and guidance to execute a minimum of one Emergency Preparedness Drills per year at each Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) GHS facility. These drills must meet new CMS emergency management standards that go into effect November 2017 and apply to over 400 Geisinger sites.
- Ensures that all Geisinger facilities within the region complete yearly Hazard Vulnerability Analyses and submit the documentation as appropriate.
- Participates with internal and external task forces, committees, and agencies regarding emergency preparedness including those at the hospital, local, regional, and state levels. Including programs such as ChemPack and Knowledge Center.
- Ensures that all CMS guidelines for Emergency Management standards are communicated and met at each facility and that facilities are compliant with their reports and documentation.
- Attends all platform Emergency Management Committee meetings and provides regular updates on committee progress.
- Ensures that all documentation is prepared timely and complete and available for regulatory reference.
- Serves as a Lead Instructor and provides training and education to employees related to emergency management, active shooter incidents and Hospital Incident Command.
- Updates the facilities Business Continuity Plan and exercises the plan annually.
- Investigates and researches best practices with respect to emergency preparedness, attends seminars, benchmarks with other institutions and obtains resource material for review.
- Works with all Geisinger facilities to ensure that emergency preparedness equipment and supplies are available and in good working order. Assist in the coordination of recommending purchase of supplies/equipment as necessary. Provides inventory listings of all emergency management-related supplies at each site to Supply Chain for system-wide utilization and management.
