Geisinger’s Ophthalmology department in Northeast Pennsylvania is growing and adding to the team. We are seeking Optometrists (doctor of optometry, OD) to join our practice location in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania.

- Geisinger’s Department of Ophthalmology is a driven, successful and growing multi-specialty group with both optometrists and ophthalmologists, including Cataract / Comprehensive as well as subspecialists in Retina, Glaucoma, Cornea, Oculoplastics, and pediatrics.
- Ability to take on a growing practice
- Experience or Residency training preferred
- Our highly trained Optometrists practice medical optometry, to the highest scope of practice, working closely and co-managing patients with our ophthalmologists.
- State of the art diagnostic testing, including OCT, Pentacam, Visual Fields, and Optos Fundus photography
- Position supported by ophthalmic technicians who will provide patient work up and testing

Position Details
An optometrist is a doctor of optometry, an OD. A health care professional who is licensed to provide primary eye care services. Optometrists examine and diagnose eye diseases such as glaucoma, cataracts and retinal diseases; diagnose related systemic (body-wide) conditions such as hypertension and diabetes that may affect the eyes; examine, diagnose and treat visual conditions such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism and presbyopia; and prescribe glasses, contact lenses, low-vision rehabilitation and medications. Optometrists also perform minor surgical procedures such as the removal of foreign bodies.
Interviews patients to obtain information such as symptoms, medical histories, and family histories. Performs and/or interprets diagnostic tests as needed.
Diagnose and design a plan of treatment for injuries and/or illness. May prescribe or administer medications. Prepares, maintains, and reviews records that include patients' histories, examination findings, treatment plans, or outcomes.
Work is typically performed in a clinical and office environment. Accountable for satisfying all job specific obligations and complying with all organization policies and procedures.
