Chair, Department of Emergency Medicine
Job Summary
Geisinger is seeking an experienced Emergency Medicine physician with exceptional leadership skills to lead the Department of Emergency Medicine as Department Chair. The Chair of Emergency Medicine will provide leadership and management for the Department of Emergency Medicine, working cooperatively with the ED Directors, Division Leadership, nursing, ancillary staff and other departments to provide emergency services for all patients who require emergency care. Although posted for Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Wilkes-Barre, PA, the Chair may sit anywhere in the system.
Job Duties
The Chair will establish and lead the execution of a strategic plan for the provision of department services across the organization, fostering a spirit of innovation in care delivery, maximizing the use of technology where possible to improve quality and enhance efficiency. He/She will direct providers, faculty, residents and other clinicians, to optimize the care of patients, support research endeavors, and provide effective and meaningful educational programs across the department.
Job Duties:
Provides leadership, planning, organization, staffing, coordination and evaluation for organizations activities.
Responsible for the development and maintenance of the capital and operating budgets of the department.
Work collaboratively with the clinical, administrative and finance leaders to establishappropriate budgets for staffing and delivering all components of the clinical, research and education programs within the department.
Act as liaison with hospital administration and other hospital platforms to promote innovative care, teaching, and research in clinical departments.
Supervise and evaluate all institute physicians in clinical and assigned administrative duties.
Responsible for all quality improvement efforts in the department.
Directs and oversees the clinical, operational and financial management of the department. May oversee one or more residency or fellowship programs.
Responsible for all organizational and accrediting and regulatory agency standards, policies and procedures.

Education and experience (Required): Career emergency physician with proven clinical and administrative skills.
Seven (7) years of clinical practicerequired; Ten (10) years preferred
Three (3) years of leadership/management in EM or other pertinent and related healthcare role; Five (5) years preferred
Board certification in emergency medicine by ABEM or AOBEM
