Job Summary
The Geisinger Neuroscience Institute is seeking an individual for the Neuroscience Advanced Practice Residency Program.
Job Duties
The qualified candidate, under the responsibility and supervision of a physician, will participate in diagnostic and therapeutic tasks to further educate the Advanced Practitioner (AP) Resident in neuroscience knowledge, patient care decision-making, and patient care management. The AP Resident will collaborate with the neurologists and neurosurgeons to provide care to new or established patients, assure continuity of care and advocacy for patients, and served as a liaison between physicians and patients. Additionally, the AP Resident will collaborate with medical staff members, nursing personnel, and other departmental staff to coordinate patient care requirements.
The AP Resident will spend 12 months in neuroscience completing rotations in Neurodiagnostics, General Neurology, Epilepsy, Neuromuscular, Consultative Neurology, Stroke, Vascular Neurosurgery, Spine Surgery, Neurosurgical Oncology, Neurotrauma, Neuro-Critical Care, and an elective in a concentration area of the resident’s choice. The AP Resident will have a combined clinical and didactic curriculum throughout the full 12 months.
The AP Resident reports directly to the physician for all patient care-related functions and the Residency Director for all other residency-related functions.
Position Details
The Physician Assistant candidate will require completion of an ARC-PA (or predecessor organization) approved physician assistant program, current NCCPA certification, and Pennsylvania State licensure.
The Nurse Practitioner candidate will require completion of an approved program for Nurse Practitioners and hold national certification that allows the NP to work with the patient populations and location settings associated with this position. Must be licensed as a nurse practitioner in the state of PA.
GEISINGER WYOMING VALLEY MEDICAL CENTER: (GWV), located in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., is an acute care hospital that is licensed for 274 beds, and houses the only Level II Trauma center in Luzerne County. The campus includes the Frank M. and Dorothea Henry Cancer Center, The Richard and Marion Pearsall Heart Hospital, the Janet Weis Children’s Hospital Pediatric Unit, a transplant program and the Brain & Spine Tumor Institute. Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre is GWV’s ambulatory campus.
