Job Summary
Delivers radiation therapy. Meets the qualifications to provide care for patients in the specific age range in assigned clinical area.
Job Duties
- Explains procedures and answers patient questions. Schedules treatments in oncology information management system and gives a copy of the schedule to the patient.
- Positions patient for treatment reproducing simulation setup, obtains required imaging and accurately delivers treatment. Maintains accessory medical equipment such as IVs and oxygen.
- Observes and questions patient concerning nutrition status, side effects, and emotional health. Notifies physician of significant patient problems. Resolves questions concerning patient's prescription with physician.
- Reviews the treatment record in oncology information management system for completeness and accuracy daily. Completes charts and submits appropriate billing.
- Completes necessary quality assurance checklists in oncology information management system. Performs equipment warm-up procedures.
- Maintains treatment machines and accessories. Informs proper personnel of equipment malfunctions. Performs quality control tests of equipment.
- Meets Radiation Safety requirements and policies with daily patient treatments and activities.
- While on call:
- simulates new patients with the aid of the physician.
- Determines optimum fields to cover with proper information.
- Takes treatment field photograph and tattoos approved field.
- Records all information needed for reliable reproduction.
- Enters necessary information into oncology information management system for patient simulation. Interprets appropriate tables to determine dosage for emergency on call cases.
- Calculates number of monitor units or exposure time for each treatment session to achieve prescribed dose for emergency patients.

Education
Graduate from Specialty Training Program- (Required)Certification(s) and License(s)
Licensed Radiation Therapist within 3 years of hire - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT); Basic Life Support Certification - Default Issuing BodySkills
