Security Officer I - Full Time
Job Summary
Responsible for maintaining safety and security for an assigned area. Maintains safety and security of patients, visitors, and employees; conducts routine patrols of assigned areas to keep property and persons free from risk; meets the qualifications to provide care for patients in the specific age range on their assigned area. Responds to emergencies, fire alarms, hazardous material incidents. Deals with conflict, confrontation, and stressful situations on a routine basis. Performs both foot patrol and vehicle patrol of facilities and grounds. Must be physically able to provide the essential services of the position.
Job Duties
- Conducts routine patrols on foot or by car of assigned areas; enforces hospital rules of conduct; is aware of unauthorized persons, unusual physical factors, and mechanical malfunctions; reports or resolves problems, as appropriate; completes detailed written shift reports as required; may carry a watch tour clock or similar device to record the patrol of a designated area.
- Directs firefighting activities; inspects buildings for fire and safety hazards; enforces fire and safety rules; participates in fire drills and fire and safety programs for employees; works cooperatively with local fire departments.
- Directs traffic on hospital property; enforces traffic and parking regulations; assists patients, visitors, and employees with vehicle problems per policy and training.
- Provides routine escort and emergent delivery services to campus facilities.
- Participates in orientation of new employees and students in fire, safety, and security policies; trains in fire fighting techniques and use of equipment.
- Locks all doors, in designated areas, after regular business hours; unlocks doors at the start of business hours.
- Operates security technology equipment including; personal computers, CCTV systems, fire alarm system, access control systems, security alarm systems, and radios.
- Performs emergency and hazardous material response services in accordance with training, policy and equipment capabilities.
- Performs security and emergency services related to site emergency management plans.
- Trains in relation to Hospital Emergency Incident Command System job roles.
- Performs set up duties related to Emergency Operations Center.
- Investigates employee, visitor, and patient complaints; works cooperatively with local police departments and authorities.
- Completes detailed reports on incidents, thefts, losses.
- Responds to requests for assistance involving patients in the assigned locations; assists in locating patients; assists Life Flight with unloading patients and equipment, as necessary.
- Coordinates and performs prisoner escort duties consistent with protocol.
- Assists and directs patients and visitors to areas within the Medical Center; furnishes information, as requested; may provide assistance to handicapped, wheelchair, and elderly persons upon arrival and departure from the Medical Center; assures an adequate supply of wheelchairs at the hospital entrance.
