Phlebotomist II Mobile
Job Summary
Phlebotomists are responsible for collection and procurement of blood and human specimens in the clinical and non clinical setting. This role is an important component of patient experience, and the individual is expected to collaborate with clinical and non clinical counterparts to provide a safe environment that promotes the best possible outcomes.
Job Duties
- Performs venipunctures and skin punctures to obtain blood specimens according to the Clinical laboratory Standards Institute guidelines.
- Demonstrates competency in patient identification, specimen collection, labeling, accessioning, and processing.
- Exhibit strong problem-solving skills.
- Understands the criteria for specimen acceptability and rejection.
- Functions effectively in a team environment.
- Works under the leadership of Phlebotomist III, Preanaytical Specialist, Team Lead, Supervisor, or other Laboratory Leader and escalates issues accordingly.
- Possess critical thinking skills to adjust to changing work conditions.
- Carries out responsibilities in an independent and accountable manner in all assigned care areas.
- Required to follow supplemental safety protocols at any non-Geisinger facilities.
- Function as an autonomous end user of relevant Geisinger business applications and tools.
- Required to carry the mobile phlebotomy toolkit – ability to carry/lift 15 pounds.
- Performs collection of specimens in the Acute, Post-acute, Clinic and Field Service areas as needed.
- Mentor students and new employees.
- Expected to conduct themselves in alignment with Geisinger core values and competencies.
- Inventory management as required and directed by site or regional lead.
- Requires initial and annual competency via Learning Management System which includes an exam and direct observation checklist.
- Fosters a collaborative approach to delivering patient care, with effective communication and interpersonal skills, demonstration of individual and team accountability, and practice of sound judgement and decision making.
- Assists with continuous improvement objectives including root cause analyses and other investigative processes.
- Driver’s license and clean driver record required. Employee is subject to annual driver record checks.
- Fleet Maintenance – employee must adhere to GSS fleet maintenance policy and adhere to vehicle preventative maintenance schedules.

Position Details
One of the following is required upon hire:
- Graduate of a Phlebotomy program with evidence of a clinical rotation
- 12 months relevant phlebotomy experience in a healthcare setting
- ASCP certification preferred
Education
High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED)- (Required)Experience

Certified Phlebotomy Technician - American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP); Valid Driver's License - Default Issuing BodySkills
