Genetic Counselor (On-site)
Job Summary
We are recruiting for a unique genetic counselor opportunity! This position incorporates the Geisinger Health Plan (GHP) along with clinical and research opportunities. This is an on-site, full time position. Remote employment will not be considered at this time. Licensed Genetic Counselors with work experience in the areas of medical genetics and genetic counseling. Work as leaders of health care and research teams, providing information and support to families, individuals considering genetic testing, and to individuals participating or considering participating in research. Develop and manage research projects and clinical programs related to the field of medical genetics, genetic testing, genetic counseling, and bioethics. This posting reflects an opening for a Genetic Counselor I and we are seeking candidates for that position. Geisinger reserves the right to consider applicants for higher levels of this role to include a Genetic Counselor II and Genetic Counselor Senior based on their skills, qualifications, and experience. Job Duties
- Collects and interprets family, medical and reproductive histories.
- Determines and provides information on the natural history, features, mode of inheritance and recurrence risk of genetic diseases and birth defects.
- Provides patient information to clinical geneticist for regularly scheduled pediatric genetic clinic.
- Provides information and support services to patients and their families.
- Assists geneticist with clinical evaluations.
- Utilizes clinical geneticist as technical resource person to develop policies, procedures and protocols.
- Provides information on coordinates and interprets genetic laboratory studies and other diagnostic testing.
- Facilitates informed decision making about testing, pregnancy management and reproductive options.
- Identifies and utilizes national and community resources that can assist patients and their families with medical, financial, educational and psychosocial support.
- Carries out all relevant charting and EPIC requirements.
- Provides estrogen counseling.
- Provides education and serves as a resource to other health professionals and the community.

Position Details
GHP responsibilities include:
- Review current scientific literature and clinical guidelines to inform policy development and updates.
- Collaborate with medical directors and policy teams to create and revise coverage policies for genetic and genomic testing.
- Monitor emerging trends in genetic testing and precision medicine to ensure policies remain current and clinically relevant.
- Support internal education efforts by presenting updates on genetic testing technologies and clinical utility.

Master's Degree-Genetic Counseling (Required)Certification(s) and License(s)
