Manager Professional Coding (medical coding) ( work from home East Coast resident)
Job Summary
Responsible for planning, organizing, staffing, directing and controlling the activities and personnel for professional coding service initiatives. Directly manages and implements programs to ensure efficient operations of the professional coding program in order to generate sufficient revenue and cash flow. Responsibilities include managing , formulating new programs, identifying areas of opportunity for program improvement, analyzing current workflow, benchmarking against industry best practice models, reducing duplication of effort while increasing efficiency and resolving any hospital and professional coding related issues to include coordinating policy and guidance associated with hospital and professional accounts receivable.
Job Duties
- Provides feedback to coding staff on errors and trends identified and counsel staff as required.
- Provides suggestions and supporting information to improve the error rate related to diagnoses and procedure edits.
- Responsible for training, development, discipline, and conducting the performance appraisal..
- Reviews reports in order to measure employee and section performance to ensure that organizational goals and objectives are achieved along with measuring results to ensure proper utilization of manpower.
- Assists in recruitment of new personnel along with ensuring that training, development, discipline and conducting performance appraisals on current personnel is completed timely along with recommending direction and improvements to help the employee meet department goals.
- Reviews and implements process improvements for individual and department workflow.
- Analyzes and updates as necessary any departmental policies and procedures, in conjunction with workflow changes.
- Acts as a liaison with physicians to ascertain and correct information needed to resolve discrepancies regarding diagnoses and procedures based on standard clinical pathways and translation of clinical data into coded form.
- Facilitates various technological initiatives in support of coding and business process improvements with respect to hospital and professional coding management operations.
- Reviews account detail and compare to the medical records for accurate selection of diagnoses and procedure codes as a quality measure for all coding activity.
- Responds to request from billing office for claims holding in billing system as a result of payer edits or rejections related to coding.
