Nursing Faculty (Open Rank)
Job Summary
The Department of Population Health Sciences (DPHS) and Nursing Research at Geisinger invites applications from nurse researchers for a faculty position (open rank) to join our multidisciplinary team of researchers. The candidate is expected to lead an independent research program and have experience mentoring nurses in conducting clinical research. The DPHS is part of the Research Institute within the College of Health Sciences at Geisinger. Geisinger, a large integrated health system with a research portfolio that includes funding from NIH, CDC, PCORI, state and foundation grants, and industry. The DPHS faculty includes epidemiologists, biostatisticians, health services, and health economist researchers. Faculty have access to longitudinal electronic medical record data, claims data, genetic, and environmental data. The position is jointly funded by Nursing Research. The candidate will be expected to direct the Nursing Research Fellowship program, a 12-month program that aims to increase knowledge about research and generate projects to support the nursing excellence culture at Geisinger. It is also expected that this role will help enhance research training in our nursing education programs.
Job Duties
- Directs day-to-day development, maintenance, and supervision of a productive and nationally competitive research program.
- Directs and supervises members of the research group providing technical and intellectual leadership.
- Identifies the research question, formulates the hypothesis, plans the experiments, records the observations and data, analyzes the data, and draws conclusions.
- Prepares and submits applications for external funding from national agencies.
- Oversees completion of the specific aims of funded projects.
- Prepares completed work for publication.
- Publishes/presents research results in both informal and formal seminars within the organization and to extramural audiences at national and international meetings and academic institutions.
- Collaborates with other investigators and physicians as well as with investigators from other institutions.
- Demonstrates institutional service by participation on committees.
- Provides technical assistance in service to other departments, clinical associates, residents, fellows and students.
- Begins developing a record of national and international service in the field of expertise by memberships in grant review panels, editorial boards and journal reviews.

Position Details
We are interested in candidates who have or will develop an independent, extramurally funded research program. The ideal candidate will have experience working with health system data and/or developing and evaluating care models from a nursing perspective, using innovative health information and informatics approaches to address important and challenging problems. Preference will be given to those with existing funding. Applicants must have a PhD or DNP and training in health services research.
