Job Summary

Geisinger seeks an outstanding Research Project Manager for the newly created Geisinger Program Evaluation (GPE) team, whose purpose is to conduct rigorous evaluations of potentially high-impact programs intended to improve patient health or improve efficiency at Geisinger. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, well-versed in project management software, and have extensive experience facilitating all stages of research projects. The Project Manager will support GPE in developing, executing, and reporting for the team’s projects and ensure the team meets project goals and milestones. They will oversee, organize, and track the intake of potential evaluation projects, keeping the team updated on project progress and timelines. They will also assist in developing study protocols and researching and documenting operational and clinical workflows, occasionally shadowing clinical and operational stakeholders in person to gather the necessary information.

Job Duties

  • Works with principal investigator and research team to implementresearch studies.
  • Develops and manages study budgets.
  • Assists in developing complex study budgets, financial planning and preparing annual departmental and study budgets, as applicable.
  • Responsible for all regulatory documents and reporting requirements of studies.
  • Coordinates and conducts self-audits of studies to ensure regulatory compliance and reports findings to the IRB and Office of Research Compliance.
  • Develops, implements and manages protocols.
  • Responsible for leading implementation of a project plan and for overall project management including directing and mentoring the research staff, management of the study team, progress tracking and reporting, quality control, recruitment and enrollment, and research support staff training and management.
  • Serves as senior manager of all research project-related activities to meet project goals and milestones, based on study design.
  • Communicates resource needs, issues, project status and milestones met to project team, research investigators and key stakeholders.
  • Develops and delivers study specific material Hires, trains and supervises project staff.
  • Anticipates problems and implements preventative action.
  • Handles sensitive project and personnel issues and provides resolution.
  • Prepares data dictionaries and coordinators data management, data security and implementation of quality control procedures with data team.
  • Assists in writing proposals for funded studies.
  • With the research investigator, leads grant application and contract request submissions, and contributes to negotiations.
  • Provides pre and post award project management.
  • Prepares final reports for sponsors and study manuscripts for publication with review by the research investigator.

*Relevant experience may be a combination of related work experience and/or Master's degree obtained (Master's Degree = 2 years relevant experience).

Major duties and responsibilities:

  • Assisting the Associate Director in day-to-day operations and development of the GPE
  • Liaising, initiating, and coordinating execution of projects with internal and external stakeholders; this includes Geisinger groups such as clinical departments, the IRB, and the compliance, quality, and legal functions
  • Conducting literature searches and reviewing the literature to inform the team’s projects
  • Contributing to or leading manuscript drafting and submission for select evaluation studies (first-author opportunities available)
  • Participating in the design of interventions for evaluation and implementation at Geisinger
  • Participating in data management, analysis, visualization, and reporting to assess the effectiveness of Geisinger programs, including assessing their effects on patient and other outcomes and quantifying the associated costs and return on investment
  • Engaging in open science best practices (e.g., preregistration, preparing and sharing de-identified data and code)
  • Disseminating GPE findings at scientific conferences and to lay audiences (e.g., sharing findings with Geisinger leaders)

Required qualifications:

  • Experience managing projects, including tracking timelines and progress against timelines and keeping team members up to date on project needs
  • Experience with task management software (e.g., Quire, Trello)
  • Strong teamwork skills and the ability to work effectively in a group environment
  • Ability to work in an independent manner and complete increasingly complex assignments
  • Strong critical thinking skills
  • Curiosity and problem-solving skills to proactively identify solutions to pragmatic challenges in a complex healthcare system environment
  • Exceptional organizational, planning, and analytical skills
  • Competence in written, oral, and electronic communication skills (interpersonal/communication and technological effectiveness competencies)

Desired qualifications:                                                

  • Experience implementing applied research in a healthcare and/or relevant industry setting
  • Experience with business intelligence tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau)
  • Experience with open science best practices
  • Experience with implementation science
  • Experience in interdisciplinary research and working in collaborative teams
  • Experience in the healthcare industry
  • Experience with programming and databases (e.g., R. Python, SQL)

Education and/or experience:

  • Minimum 7 years’ experience managing behavioral or other research projects
  • Bachelor’s degree required
