System Director Pharmacy Services
Job Summary
Responsible for comprehensive oversight, strategy, planning, development and implementation for all pharmacy services for assigned areas.
Job Duties
- Provides operational and clinical oversight and accountability for all assigned pharmacy areas and services, including human resources, budgeting, and ongoing growth and development.
- Serves as department liaison and program steward across the organization, with outside constituents, and with strategic partners including pharmaceutical industry partners, legislative groups, other health systems, and professional pharmacy organizations.
- Oversee the development, revision, and auditing of pharmacy and related policies and operational procedures, compliance with regulatory requirements, accreditation, and other standards of practice. Collaborates to ensure safe medication use practices throughout Geisinger.
- Leads and chairs system-level initiatives and workstreams. Develops, communicates, and participates in research to enhance the impact of the pharmacists’ role in providing optimized care for Geisinger’s patients.
- Through collaboration, provides direction and guidance for the development and implementation of optimum standards of clinical and operational pharmacy practice, medication therapy disease management, medication management processes and prescription capture. Provides input and oversight for continuous performance improvement and quality initiatives.
- Works in conjunction with other departments regarding all aspects of medication management.
- Serves in an oversight capacity in the development and implementation of all strategic, tactical, and business plans (e.g. budgets, facilities and capital analyses, growth plans, operational contingency plans) to the Directors, Assistant Directors and Managers.
- Provides both clinical and operational guidance and oversight for the enhancement and development of new or existing pharmacy services and practice models.
- Collaborate with the Geisinger Health Plan, Risant Health members and our KACO partners on system-wide and multidisciplinary initiatives in support of an effective value-based care practice model.
- Explores mutually beneficial collaborations outside of Geisinger, including those with schools of pharmacy, other organizations, private funders, and research grantees
- Accountable for maintaining standards, clinical activities, operational activities and performance measurement tools that meet clinical, operational, and market needs in the areas of clinical practice, operational efficiency, quality, and patient satisfaction
- In collaboration with the VP, responsible for the financial performance and planning of all assigned areas.
- Responsible for ensuring the development and implementation of operational contingency and disaster plans in collaboration with Pharmacy leadership as conditions warrant.
- Utilizes financial or benchmarking reports to monitor all revenue and expense impacting activity related to assigned pharmacy services, proactively acts on this information and reports summary information.
- Provides administrative, operational, and clinical oversight and guidance for credentialing and continuing professional development of staff to create and operationalize highly effective teams of pharmacy clinicians and technicians.
- Facilitates active engagement and communication, recruits, retains, and facilitates development of high performing staff.
- Other duties as assigned.
