Vice President and Chief Financial Officer - Central/Northwest
Job Summary
Vice President and Chief Financial Officer - Central/Northwest (CNW Market CFO and VP) will provide strategic and operational financial leadership for the Clinical Enterprise Central, North, and West Region Hospitals. For the Market, this position is responsible for managing the operating and capital forecasts, the long-range financial model, business plan financial models, monthly operating reviews, financial improvement initiatives, promotion of financial and operational benchmarking, and assures compliance with financial standards and procedures. This role also provides financial leadership for all partnerships and joint ventures for the Market and coordinates work with all areas of finance and operations as needed. The Central North West Market CFO reports directly to the Clinical Enterprise Chief Financial Officer and strategically partners with the Central, North, and West Chief Administrative Officers and Chief Medical Officers.
Job Duties
- Facilitates the Market’s quarterly/rolling forecast, long-range forecast, and capital forecast in partnership with operational leadership.
- Actively participates in the Market’s month-end financial close review and analysis process including understanding trends in volume, revenue, expenses, and balance sheet activity.
- Along with the System Controller, attests to the Market’s financial statements quarterly.
- Leads a monthly operating review process for the Market including variance reporting and coordinates and supports development of remediation and corrective action plans with operations leadership for all material variances to plan.
- Provides regular presentations of financial performance to internal (executive and operational leadership) and external (required accreditation organizations, partnership, and JV) parties as appropriate.
- Reviews and approves operating and capital activity as well as various external reporting requirements such as the Medicare Cost Reports and 990 tax filings.
- Leads financial acumen education efforts for Market operational leadership teams.
- Leads and promotes financial performance improvement initiatives to reduce waste and improve overall financial performance.
- Works closely with the financial planning, strategic planning, operational leadership, and others in development of Market business plans and retrospective financial reviews of those plans.
- Supports Market operational leadership with capital requests and prepares return on investment financial models to support these investments.
- Serves as a member of the Clinical Enterprise Central Hospital Region leadership team and supports the North and West Hospital Region leadership teams as appropriate to support business segment objective, goals, and priorities.
- Works with all Finance Teams to improve their processes that support Market performance.
- Supports and participates in promotion of OneGeisinger financial reporting for the Market that includes all business units such as the Clinical Enterprise, Health Plan and Education.
- Facilitates knowledge of changes in finance policies, guidelines, requirements, and rules and ensure communication and adoption by operational leadership to ensure appropriate internal controls.
- Participates in finance department improvement projects and initiatives, including information systems and analytical tools/models, design, set up, implementation and stabilization.
- Serves as an advisor to Market resources in Revenue Management and Supply Chain such as Patient Access, Patient Financial Services and Supply Chain.
- Participates in special projects and committees as assigned to support finance and/or operational initiatives.
- Leads the Market business partner functions and team including prioritizing and delegating workload, providing performance reviews, goal setting, training, and development.
- Supplements Financial Planning and Financial Analytics training of tools provided by these finance departments to the Market.
- Develops and maintains strong business partner relationships across the Geisinger enterprise.
- Actively seeks input from members of the management and finance teams when appropriate
- Supports colleagues throughout finance assuming positive intent and acting as an ambassador for all areas of finance when collaborating with key stakeholders
- Collaborates with other leaders to promote the Finance Strategic Aspirations.
