Job Summary

Outpatient Psychologist Specializes in diagnosing and treating diseases of the brain, emotional disturbance and behavior problems.

Job Duties

Geisinger’s outpatient psychology team is specifically seeking a psychologist with both a strong generalist skill set and specific training in several areas of health psychology. Specifically, the psychologist who fills this role will be required to:

  • Manage an outpatient case load, which will consist of a blend of treating more general behavioral health concerns and specific health conditions, such as chronic pain.
  • Conduct individual evaluations and provide both individual and group therapy to persons presenting with functional neurological disorders
  • Conduct psychological assessments specifically for pre-surgical evaluations (e.g. bariatric surgery evaluations, spinal cord stimulator evaluations)
  • Serve as a member of our destination medicine team, conducting in-person pre-surgical evaluations specifically for Geisinger’s destination medicine program (e.g. bariatric surgeries and spinal surgeries) one to day days per week.
  • Be involved in the training of doctoral interns and possibly post-doctoral residents, specifically overseeing rotations in the health psychology domains referenced above.
  • Take a patient’s medical history.
  • Update charts and patient information to show current findings and treatments.
  • Order tests for nurses or other healthcare staff to perform.
  • Review test results to identify any abnormal findings.
  • Recommend and design a plan of treatment.
  • Address concerns or answer questions that patients have about their health and well-being.
  • Help patients take care of their health by discussing topics such as proper nutrition and hygiene.
